CLI commands
Ethernet (when Ethernet support is compiled in) CLI Commands
Learn how to view and manage Ethernet settings in MeshCore using CLI commands when Ethernet support is compiled into the firmware. This guide covers Ethernet configuration and network status to help you verify connectivity, inspect network settings, and troubleshoot Ethernet-related issues on supported devices.

1. View Ethernet Connection Status
Check whether the Ethernet interface is connected and view its IP address and CLI port.
Command:
eth.status
Output:
When connected:
ETH: <ip>:<port>
Example:
ETH: 192.168.1.50:23
When disconnected:
ETH: not connected
How It Works
- DHCP: The Ethernet interface automatically obtains an IP address using DHCP during boot.
- TCP server: A TCP server listens on port
23by default for CLI connections. - Remote CLI access: Connect using a TCP client, such as Netcat (
nc) or PuTTY, to access the same CLI available over the serial connection.
Example: Connect Using Netcat
From a device on the same network, run:
nc 192.168.1.50 23
Replace 192.168.1.50 with the IP address assigned to your MeshCore device.
Availability and Compatibility
- Available on Repeater and Room Server firmware only.
- Companion radio Ethernet firmware does not expose a CLI.
- Requires Ethernet support to be compiled into the firmware.
Important Notes
- Use the appropriate
_ethernetfirmware variant for your supported hardware. - Ensure the device is connected to a network with an available DHCP server.
- Your computer must be able to reach the device's IP address to establish a TCP connection.
- TCP port
23provides CLI access. Restrict access to trusted devices and networks, and avoid exposing this port directly to the internet.
