The technology behind the network

So, what is MeshCore?

MeshCore is a communication system built around LoRa radio technology, designed to let compatible devices exchange messages without depending on conventional mobile coverage for every transmission.

Companion devices

A companion is the device you use to interact with MeshCore, typically through a compatible phone or computer application. It lets you compose, send and receive messages over the network.

Repeaters

Repeaters can receive and retransmit eligible messages, helping extend communication beyond the direct radio range between two devices. Their usefulness depends on placement, configuration and radio conditions.

Room servers & services

Depending on the setup, additional services can support shared messaging spaces and other ways for people to interact across the network.

Radio links, not magic

Range is affected by terrain, buildings, antenna height, interference, device settings and the available infrastructure. A map can help, but it cannot guarantee that a message will get through.

Is MeshCore a replacement for the internet or mobile phones?

Not necessarily. It is an alternative communication system with its own strengths and limitations. It does not offer unlimited range or guaranteed delivery and should not be relied on as a replacement for emergency communication services.

Understanding the bigger picture

Making the regional network easier to explore

LincsMesh aims to make useful network information more visible and approachable, from individual repeaters to wider monitoring projects.

See what is available

Use the repeater resources to explore the infrastructure currently listed and learn more about reported devices.

Explore monitoring projects

Projects such as CoreScope can help visualise observations and provide another perspective on network activity when a public instance is available.

Monitoring links can be added here when the LincsMesh instance is ready to share publicly.

Understand data sharing

Tools may share observations through configured feeds such as MQTT. What is visible depends on the service, its configuration and the data being shared.

A map or observation feed represents the data available to it, not necessarily every device in the area.

Why LincsMesh?

A local focus, with room to grow

Lincolnshire's towns, villages and open countryside make it an interesting place to explore how radio communication behaves across different environments.

Knowledge that is easy to find

Useful information is more valuable when it is documented clearly, kept in one place and shared with people who need it.

A community that learns together

Everyone starts somewhere. Sharing successes, mistakes and practical experience helps the next person get further, faster.
